Cushion cover
«Protect your home with the magic of Ægishjálmur».
A cushion cover featuring a 3D-embroidered Ægishjálmur, an Icelandic magical symbol also known as the "Helmet of Horror". This ancient symbol is one of the most powerful and recognizable symbols of Icelandic magic. The name comes from two Old Norse words: Ægir - a sea giant associated with strength and power, and Hjálmur - a helmet or straw. Ancient manuscripts state that this symbol was intended for more than just defence. It was believed that the symbol helped defeat one's enemies by causing them an all-encompassing fear or confusion. It was meant to make a person “invincible” in battle as well as in difficult life situations.
Nowadays, it is most often seen as a shield against negative energy. This symbol is made of eight rays emanating from the centre. Each ray ends in several branches resembling the ancient rune Algiz, a traditional symbol of protection. Why eight directions? This symbolizes that the symbol's protection is covering all directions: north, south, east, west, as well as all points in between. The central point symbolizes the person themselves or the home that this symbol protects. A pillow featuring this symbol is a powerful amulet for a home.
The velvet cushion cover is embroidered with thread using the Casalguidi embroidery technique, which is characterized by a highly textured, three-dimensional appearance. The pillowcase is made of 100% cotton, 50% of which is recycled. Cotton velvet gives depth to the color and softness to the touch. The zipper makes the cover easy to remove and machine wash.
