«Bring the ancient wisdom of the North into your home. This isn't just a cushion — it's a talisman for your sanctuary.»

A cushion cover featuring a 3D-embroidered Vegvísir – an Icelandic magical symbol often referred to as the “Viking compass.” It is not just a decorative detail but also a powerful symbol that, according to legend, helps its owner stay on course through storms and life’s journey. The raised texture of the Vegvísir symbol creates a striking 3D effect that feels as premium as it looks, instantly elevating any room with its handcrafted quality. It is perfect gift for a fan of Norse mythology.

Meaning and Symbolism

The name derives from the Icelandic words vegur (road) and vísir (guide), so its literal meaning is “road guide.”

Protection on the journey — it is believed that whoever possesses this symbol will never get lost in a storm or bad weather, even if the path is unknown to them.

Spiritual guide — helping one find their path in life or make the right decisions when lost.

The symbol first appears in 19th-century Icelandic manuscripts (the most notable being the 1860 Huld manuscript). It belongs to the tradition of Icelandic magical symbols (known as galdrastafir). These are symbols created by combining ancient runes with later magical practices.

The central axis with eight branches symbolizes the cardinal directions (similar to a compass rose). Each of the eight branches ends with a different symbol. It is believed that each of them provides specific protection against different dangers.

  • The velvet cushion cover is embroidered with thread using the Casalguidi embroidery technique, which is characterized by a highly textured, three-dimensional appearance. The pillowcase is made of 100% cotton, 50% of which is recycled. Cotton velvet gives depth to the color and softness to the touch. The zipper makes the cover easy to remove and machine wash.
